Vitamins For Hair Growth

Facing hair loss problems? Looking for hair loss solutions? Those hair treatments commercials that you see on television may give you the impression that hair treatments must be expensive. So you avoid treating your hair and the problem becomes worse.

Fortunately, the good news is that treating your hair doesn’t have to be expensive. You just have to understand where the problem lies and seek the appropriate treatment. It may be the simple case that your hair just lack certain vitamins.

The human body has the natural ability to extract the required vitamins from various elements – the food we eat, the fruits we consume, and the sun. However, imbalance may occur due to many reasons – neglect, lack of time, stress, health issues, over exposure to the sun, etc. When that happens, action must be taken to restore the balance. Otherwise, hair becomes damaged till the point where the damage becomes irreversible. Certainly, that’s something you do not want.

Now let’s take a look at some basic vitamins that are beneficial to your hair.

Different types of vitamins for hair growth.

Basic vitamins.

For starters, your diet should contain basic vitamins like vitamin A, C and D. Vitamin A can be found in foods like liver, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes and egg yolk (take your pick). Vitamin C can be found mostly in fruits like lime, lemon, and oranges. For vitamin D, you need to eat fish or consume cod liver oil. Soy milk also contains vitamin D as well.

Vitamin B.

As for vitamin B, note that there are different types of vitamin B. More specifically, you need B-1, B-2, B-6, and B-12. You can find these vitamins in many types of hair products like hair tonic or shampoo. Good hair products also contain Folic Acid, Biotin, Panthothenic Acid, and Silica.

Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is a vitamin that has gotten a lot of attention lately. The function of vitamin E is that it acts as an antioxidant, which gets rid of toxins in the body. This has the effect of improving the overall immune system and boosting blood circulation. How does that help in hair growth?

As you know, hair follicles need to be kept healthy in order for hair to grow at a healthy rate. That means the scalp needs a healthy amount of blood circulation. Massages can help achieve this goal, but its a temporary measure. Vitamin E can take over this role and help the blood to circulate more naturally without human intervention. Foods that are rich in Vitamin E include egg yolk, cod liver oil, soya bean, peanuts, sunflower seeds, fortified cereals, vegetable oils, turnip greens, tomato paste, peanut butter, wheat germ, and avocado.

Proteins – Amino acids.

Finally, there is a lot of discussion about proteins helping in hair growth – i.e. amino acids. This discussion is still open to debate. The wise approach to adopt is not to take amino acids excessively just because you want your hair to grow longer and faster. Anything that is excessive isn’t good for health. In any case, the body just eliminates the excess and they pass out as waste materials from the body.

Consider consuming amino acids only if you are a vegetarian. In other words, if your diet is lacking in protein, you should consume additional supplements so that you can fill up the daily shortfall. That is different from taking proteins excessively. You are just making up the shortfall, which is good for overall health and hair growth.
